Let’s Hydrate Baby!… The Right Way.
Lately, I have been obsessed with water research and getting information on what type of water benefits me the best after watching Down To Earth with Zac Efron on Netflix.
Check out below some fun and informative facts on the water we drink everyday and what water truly benefits You.
After watching Down To Earth with Zac Efron on Netflix, I will never drink water the same! I highly recommend this Netflix series by the way, I learned so much watching. In this particular episode they focused on the Water industry, its economics and how other cities like Pairs, France distributes its water. Zac and his team started the episode with a “Water Sommelier” who broke the water game down for us and his facts truly blew my mind!
First question, why are you drinking the water you drink? Are you aimlessly dinking water 1) because you have to and/or 2) you decide based off the pretty label or because it’s Purified?
Martin Riese, Water Sommelier
If you didn’t know, drinking purified or distilled water is like drinking filtered tap water. On this episode they described city tap water to be flitred water, infused with chemicals which would really be described as an ‘experimental tea”…. gross!
Water Sommelier, Martin Riese actually says he stays away from Purified water. Purified water is produced in a factory and is stripped of minerals which in actuality when drinking, dehydrates you instead of hydrating your body.
Water naturally has minerals ie. calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, bicarbonate, zinc, iron and silica just to name a few. The minerals help in hydrating you when you drink water. If your water lacks minerals the water actually draws minerals from your body because just like your body, water too absorbs minerals when it lacks it.
Water is alive and a source of energy. You want to hydrate with good quality water.
The United States profits heavily off of the bottled water industry and majority water brands you see are purified. It’s crazy how marketing in this country has made it “a thing” to drink purified water and it’s actually the worst water to intake.
So what should You be drinking!?
The answer is Spring or Mineral Water. Spring and Mineral water are both sourced and bottled at a natural spring. On every bottle of Spring or Mineral water you will see where the water is sourced (which I love). Spring water has natural minerals from the rocks and other sources in the spring making the water very hydrating and healthy.
Mineral water i.e. sparkling water which is naturally carbonated is also amazing for the body. The higher the mineral content the better!
Mineral content is measured on a TDS ( total dissolved solids) system, the higher the TDS the more minerals. ROI Water is a super exclusive water not available here in the states with a TDS of 7k. Martin describes this water to be like medicine since the mineral content is so high.
In addition, Spring water can have a pH in the mid-8s to 9 and above, which would make it a very high alkaline water.
bottled Water For You:
Waiakea
Waiakea is alkaline spring water. It’s sourced from spring filtered through 14,000 feet of porous lava rock of Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano. Naturally occurring silica, magnesium, potassium, sodium, calcium and other alkaline minerals are found in this water. It is a high alkaline water that is reported to have a 8.8 pH and is rich in silica, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron, and other minerals.
icelandic
Icelandic sources its alkaline water from the legendary Ölfus Spring in Iceland. The spring is shielded by an impenetrable barrier of lava rock, and the melting ice is naturally filtered through the volcanic rock and supplies Icelandic with alkaline spring water reported to have an 8.4 pH.
eternal
Eternal alkaline sprint water is sourced from the Alleghany Mountains south of Springville, NY, the Great Smoky Mountains of Eastern Tennessee, and the Shasta-Trinity Alps of California. Minerals include sodium, magnesium, potassium and calcium. The Eternal spring water has a reported pH ranging from 7.8 – 8.2 depending on where it was sourced.
mountain Valley
Mountain Valley alkaline water is sourced from a spring in a remote valley of the Ouachita Mountains. The Ouachita Mountains are a mountain range in west central Arkansas and southeastern Oklahoma of the U.S. The spring provides Mountain Valley with alkaline water that has a reported 7.8 pH. Minerals consist mainly of calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
fiji
Fiji water is alkalized in natural artesian aquifer deep below the earth’s surface in the Fiji islands. Minerals found in Fiji include silica, magnesium, and calcium The aquifer supplies Fiji with spring water that has a reported 7.7 pH.
evian
Evian spring water is sourced from water that is filtered through the Northern Alps and supplies Evian with alkaline water that has a reported 7.2 pH. Minerals include calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, and nitrates.
sparkling water for you:
Voss Sparkling
San Pellegrino Sparkling Mineral Water
Perrier Sparkling Natural Mineral Water
Mountain Valley Sparkling Water
Gerolsteiner Mineral Water
This a small list of naturally carbonated mineral waters that are easy get at any grocery store.
The minerals and their benefits:
Calcium:
Calcium is a mineral that is necessary for life. In addition to building bones and keeping them healthy, calcium enables our blood to clot, our muscles to contract, and our heart to beat. About 99% of the calcium in our bodies is in our bones and teeth.
magnesium:
Magnesium is an important mineral, playing a role in over 300 enzyme reactions in the human body. Its many functions include helping with muscle and nerve function, regulating blood pressure, and supporting the immune system.
potassium:
Potassium is one of the most important minerals in the body. It helps regulate fluid balance, muscle contractions and nerve signals. the in take of potassium may help reduce blood pressure and water retention, protect against stroke and prevents osteoporosis and kidney stones.
sodium:
Sodium is an essential mineral. It helps in regulating blood pressure and blood volume, helps muscle and nerves work properly, and is in the water balance throughout the body. It regulates the acid/alkali balance along with other minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium.
silica:
Silica is a mineral that helps strengthen the connective tissues of the brain, nerve cells, and spinal cord thereby improving memory and helping to prevent memory loss. Silica also helps stabilize the pancreas's release of insulin. If you want your nails, skin, and hair to be healthy, turn to silica.
I hope that wasn’t information over load, but I had to share this info once I saw that episode on Down to Earth. I hope you all check it out and drink more water….Spring Water! lol
